Eric Ellerine Trust (Pty) Ltd (“EET”) is a South African based investment holding company operating out of Houghton, Johannesburg. EET, with a multi-billion rand asset base, has three main areas of investment focus namely:

  • Investments in the Johannesburg Stock Exchange
  • Property Investments, and
  • Private equity investments.

EET is the majority shareholder of Ellerine Bros (Pty) Ltd (“Ellerine Bros”).

Ellerine Bros owns stakes in properties such as Canal Walk (Cape Town), The Glen (in the south of Johannesburg) and the Fourways Crossing Centre (in Fourways, Johannesburg) as well as many other iconic buildings.

EET’s investment philosophy has been to back privately held companies and entrepreneurs with visions to scale their operations into much larger enterprises. Historically, many of these investments have resulted in listings on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

EET has a long-term investment horizon with many of its successful partnerships dating back more than 20 years.

EET has significant holdings in the listed entities Blue Label Telecoms, Newpark REIT Limited, which owns the JSE building and the 24 Central building in Sandton, and Echo Polska Properties, the Poland focused commercial and retail property entity. Dionne Ellerine serves on the board of directors of Newpark REIT Limited and Echo Polska Properties and various other private companies.

Eric Ellerine has been operating in the South African market since 1950. He founded and built up Ellerine Holdings Limited from humble begins into a listed retail empire with his brother Sidney. Since 2000, when Eric’s involvement in the retail operation came to an end, he has been focusing on long term investing through EET and Ellerine Bros. Eric has served on the boards of Redefine Properties Limited and Bidvest Limited and on 11 other publicly listed company boards as a non-executive director.

Dionne has a B Com LLB from Wits University and thereafter was admitted as an Attorney of the Supreme Court of South Africa. She lived in London for 11 years where she managed commercial property investments for offshore clients. On return to South Africa she was appointed as a director of Ellerine Bros and serves as Chief Executive Officer of Eric Ellerine Trust (Pty) Ltd. Dionne is a non-executive director on the boards of Newpark REIT Limited and Echo Polska Properties.

Ron joined Ellerine Bros in 2006 as the financial manager. Ron is in charge of the finance, accounting, reporting, consolidation, tax and compliance functions of EET and all its asscociated entities. Prior to joining Ellerine Bros, Ron spent 20 years with Waltons Stationary and the Bidvest Group of companies. Ron holds a B Com from the University of Natal and Hons BCompt degree in Accounting from the University of South Africa. Ron completed his articles of clerkship with Deloittes.
